100 IFS Steering rack - rebuild or replace?

Looking for advice on a leaky 100 IFS series steering rack. It's leaking about 5 drips a day.
All of the regular mechanics are wanting to just replace it, but at $2k for the part or $1200 for a copy, I am hesitant.
What are they like to have rebuilt? It's just a piston with some seals right? Anyone with experience or know of a mob who could quote on an overhaul ?
Thanks

Foodie we used to talk! wheres the love?!
I can recall reading some issues about the steering racks seals going at one stage... I'm trying to think... I think I saw a few threads on LCOOL about this issue.. recommend hitting up the guys on there for a solid answer.. this place is pretty dead these days.. Haven't been on LCOOL to see if you've asked the same question there..
Good luck!
Oh have you tried some Lucas power steering stop leak shit? might buy you some time... also heard of people putting brake fluid in with or replacing all of the power steering fluid as it will swell the seals, possibly stopping the leak.

Seal kits are cheap. $2k for just the rack, fark that
