Whos done it, how did you wire them up and what alt. did you use?

Reason being i run a fair bit and the poor old GQ alt. jsut cant handle it well enough .... i was thinking of mounting it on top of the A/C but have no idea on how to wire it up to complement the existing alt.

any alternator can be upgraded to pump more current, up to 200 amps or more - talk to an auto electrician.

if you are dead keen on a second alt, the wiring can be made pretty easy by using an internally regulated alternator, then there are only a few connections - 1 to the battery positive (usually marked B+ on the alt) one to ground (usually marked D-) and a signal wire usually connected to the ignition + - this can ben reduced to 1 wire by looping B+ to the signal connector and making sure the alternator body is well earthed.

externally regulated alternators are more difficult to wire up and there are many different kinds so it's impossible to say 'this is how you wire them'
