40 series question

Hi team,
just a quick question about the 60 power steer conversion.
first of all, every thread i have read as been with the 55series steering column. I dont believe i will be able to get my hands on one of these. is there another option around this? and is it used for the tilt steer in the column? or other reasons why it is used?
second of all I have build solid steering arms and would prefer to keep them, from what i can tell this should be possible right? if not why not?
pretty stupid questions i know, starting to do the shopping for the parts and would rather avoid the trial and error process as i know this is a common upgrade.
cheers.

reason for the 55 column is to use the splined end so it fits a uni for the intermediate shaft, as well as the bearing support in the bottom of the steering column/shaft.
alternatives are:
- get your original 40 series shaft spilned
- convert an 80series ragjoint to work with the 40 column (requires a bit of mucking around)
- use a 60 series steering column which provides tilt and moves wiper switches to the stalk.

Depending on what you're adding 60 series steering to (2f, 2h, 3b, etc) you can get the basics here:
http://www.40seriescruisers.com/showthr ... Conversion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
With links to differences for 2h/etc

This is what a 40 column+80 ragjoint hybrid looks like:
Depends what steering rods you have now, if you have strengthened rods for the 40 series setup, you might be able to use them if they can take the TRE's of a 75.
Part of the upgrade is swival arms to later model 40/75/60 which have a larger taper for the TRE. The 75 arms are the right length, thicker and fit the correct TRE's.

I go through a idler arm EVERY FRIIGIN YEAR
hoping to do this power steering myself
got an eye on some 75wreck
got the power steering revervoir off a 1hdt engine
soo intermediate shaft and power steering off thd above 75wreck
Hydraulic lines and steering arms
The 47arms arent strong enough for the power steering?
it was a factory option.. I heard
Got the air con...no 5spd but looking into that
soo power steerbox...lines
is all I can grab off this wreck
have to chase up the stronger steering arms ??
That it?
The f250 shock tower is the other mod required ?
Ive GOT HEAPS of pics of people doing it online
Twisty has a good members thread on his hj47
And power steer modded
