Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys does anybody know what the go is with the base where the UHF aerial srews onto and the coax joint? My coax has come out out of this base and not sure if it needs a new unit or it can just screw back together? Is there a spike up inside the base that sticks into the coax or what?

Hope you can make sense of this, its hard to explain.

Normaly the centre wire is soldered into position and the outer screen is connected to earth

Yeah this is some weird type base. I just took it into Dick Smiths Electronics and they said they have never seen one like it.

Are you able to get a pic of the base, I've been to dse and the guys didn't know the difference between am & uhf antennae, or that there were 2 types of coax for them.

i got a new base today but still have problems, got it home and opened the packet "no instructions" this one has a hole right up the shaft which is internally threaded, So i'm guessing you screw the coax into it with the centre wire barred back to poke through the top and solder at the top???????????????? Geez the AM bases are simple, you just have a tab for the earth braid and a screw for the centre wire but this UHF stuff is complicated without instructions.

It sounds like you'll need to strip back the first layer of insulation an inch or 2, remove most of the braid to leave the clear insulation around the centre. Expose an small amount of the centre and fold the braid back over the outer insulation. The braid then earths to mount as it screws into the mount, making sure enough braid was stripped so the inner has enough so it can be soldered at the top. Might be a bit more work than an am, but far better reception.
