Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey all, last few days when i get out of the lux i have noticed a funny smell coming from the rear drivers side area. the hub is verry hot, much hotter than the other side. i assume that the bearings are rooted. am i on the right track? if so how much would it be to get fixed? its only happened since i got back from a trip to fraser island where i probably got some water past the seals. cheers

I just bought 2 rear wheel bearing kits from toyota for 80 bucks each.
I've only done 1 side and it was a real mongrel to get off, bent the backing plate. I'll try heating the bearing while pressing the other 1 off and see how that goes.

Check the price on a wheel bearing kit, the best price I got was from the bearing place behind Brisbane Car Sound at Rocklea and it had all the bits. Some kits aren't complete. As for fitting, I take the axle and housing off the car and go to a mechanic I know and say here's the axle, there's the bearing I'll be back in an hour. I'm told you need to cut the old bearing off and either press or belt with a big bit o pipe the new one back on. The second option has worked successfully for me twice now.

Repco were 90 bucks with everything you need, have ya pulled the axle out and checked it is the bearings, mine were rooted but didn't get hot, what about your handbrake cable, brakes etc.

Don't have a press and found the best way to do em is to remove the circlip then hit the locking collar with a cold chisel to get it off, the repco kit comes with a newy, flip the axle upside down and hit the axle on a concrete floor, pref on some timber, they are a prick to get out but, then iv'e made a peice of pipe with a block welded on top to hit hit the new bearing on , sounds rough but does work if ya don't hav access to a press.

thanks for the help fellas but i think that i might just get my mates workshop to do it, sounds a bit beyond my mechanical abilities and dont have the required tools. im guessing that some water got passed the seals so i'll get them to replace them at the same time. thanks again
