First off, hi to all
hope this is the right place for this...
i have $20k to spend a 4wd and the more i look and the more i research what to get, the more confused i get...
without starting a flame war, what is the general consensus on what to get if you want a daily driver and a mild to medium capable 4wd with $20k?
and are there any advantages of diesel over petrol in this situation?
TIA

Shortie Mk
WHAT???? they cost that farken much to run over the years
Really i'd look at either a shortie gq diesel or a diesel 80 series, turbo's are a plus

I got my 80 series for 15grand. 2" lift, bullbar & 33's. 4.5lt twin cam a bit heavy on fuel. But you dont have to give it arseholes like you do with diesels = less stress on drive train..
Go the 80.

I would bye a Nissan GQ on petrol with a LPG setup. You can find really good standard ones with low KM's for $10 - $12 grand.Hold on 2 your eight grand and join a 4 x 4 club then decide on your upgrades from experienced 4wheel drivers. If you bye a little 4x4 you might end up wasting money later on having to upgrade to a real live axled coil sprung tonka like a GQ.They GQ's are the strongest around and are cheaper than Toyotas. CHEERS.

Its probably been covered here before but I guess a lot depends on how much room you need, are you just going to do day trips or a week away? wagon, ute, dual cab, shorty? Small fourbys are less hassle to drive around town and park, and manouver better in the tight bush, but I'm buggered if i could fit my double swag, and all the other shiat in a suzi or i'd probably have one? GQ's are a pretty good thing for most purposes

Go the GQ.....You'll get a decent diesel LWB for $15k, or a SWB for $12k.
You'll still have lots of $$ for mods. Join a club or come on some of the Outerlimits runs to get an idea of what you want/need.
For $20k you could set up quite a capable vehicle, whatever you buy!!

hi guys, if size does not matter but you want somthing capable, spend 5k t0 6k on a suzi, throw in double air lockers and rockcrawlers in the tcase.theres another $4,100. so say your at 10k know you still got 10k suspension and bodylift. you will drive around the bigger guys. or between the trees that they cant fit between., suspension and body theres another $1600.00. i agree that the best experience you will get is from others in a club. but as each mod comes along drive the vehicle and learn its limits. but if you want bigger, you dont know whjat your missin till you drive a nissan. gq coily cant go wrong. 4 in lift including panards and caster plates $1750 aproxx fitted. 2in body $600.00 fitted approx set of 33,s . still good on road. awsome off road
