Best A/T tyre for Lux'z

A friend is looking for some All Terrain tyres for her HiLux.
Couple of Q's.....
Stay with std size of 205R16....?
Go to the SR5 size of 255/70/15....(would need new rims 4 this)
And finally.....what sort... Cooper ST?? or maybe Bridgestone or BFG A/T's??

She doesn't do heaps of off road but needs something that wont let her down when she does.

the Cooper ST and BFG At have an aggressive sidewall which will give better traction that your regular a/t, and have a blockier type traction similar to a m/t.

really depends what kind of driving she is planning on... muddy victorian? cooper st... mainly dirt roads, sand etc... something like a procomp a/t, which comes with an 80,000km guaranteee, or the cooper which also has an 80,000 (subject to 5000km rotations etc) would be ok.

really comes down to what she wants to do. All of the above will wear well on the road, and give 60,000+

I agree, boggers are the go.

On a more serious note. Even though they are not the most aggressive AT tyre i would go the BFG as they wear way more evenly than the others therefore last longer.

The cooper tyres warranty makes you rotate tyres (in a tyre shop) every 5-10,000km.

BFG AT's generally last 80 or so K's with light offroad use as long as your wheel alignment is set up right. They are also a lot quieter than the others whilst still providing adequate traction for mild offroad conditions.

With the thicker sidewall they also offer excellent on road manners especially when towing and carrying heavy loads.

My 10c. Have fitted them to dozens of vehicles that i sell and have never had a complaint.

Or go for the wider 255/70/15's that the SR5 uses.
Or run 2 sets, the originals and maybe the wider sr5 size.

Cooper require rotation, balancing and alignment every 10000km and the price for this service is fixed for the life of the tyres when you buy them. I pay $44- which to me is good value for something you should have done anyway. :) A wheel alignment alone is normally over $60.

i just put 31/10.5/15 bfg a/t on my lux and they are awesome. DO NOT stay with the std size (7.5R 16), the difference in ride and handling is huge and they are safer IMO as they dont slide round as much and brake much better. definitely go the wider tyre on some sunraysia wheels which are cheap as chips, u wont regret it.

If anyone is planning on getting sunraysias, be careful as I recently found my set (made by CSA wheels) was causing the wheel balance problems that I'd been having for over six months. Other brands I can't comment on, but the CSA Ranger RV had a sideways wobble that caused similar symptoms to the wheels being out of balance.

If you can afford them get alloys as they are made to much better tolerances. ;)

Ive got the RockCrawler rims that are imported from America by ProComp.
These have the centers welded by robot all at once and seem to balance up perfectly. Not keen on alloys for serious stuff but fine for the rest.
