Hi.

I'm putting together a mild 22RE at the moment, and have ecountered a small problem.. the new timing chain has no bright links.

So what i'm asking is if anyone has their 22r open atm can they please count the links up one side for me? Should there be an even amount each side? I'm doin this cos it's cheap and easy but i still don't want bust it up when i start it.

Any help would be appreciated. Any abuse tolerated.

you don't need to count links.

1. rotate the crank to #1 TDC - probably with the crank pulley key pointing straight up.

2. rotate the camshaft until the valves on #1 cylinder are on overlap - this means that both the inlet and exhaust valves are just cracked open - this is TDC between the exhaust and inlet strokes. #4 cylinder is at TDC between the compression and power strokes.

3. install the timing chain to the teeth on the cog which requires the leaast fiddling of camshaft angle to make it fit. roatate the crankshaft exactly 2 rotations back to TDC and check that #1 is on overlap. if it is one tooth out either way, only one valve will be cracked open, the other will have no load on the rocker arm. adjust if necessary.

make sense?

cheers
