I'm making a pair of sliders and are after an opinions on the thickness of the mounting brackets. I will be using the existing side step mounting points on the chassis. The sliders are 44mm O/D black pipe with 3mm walls. They are 1800mm long.

Will 3mm plate be thick enough or should I go for 5mm?

At present I only have the factory side steps which bolt up with a 2mm bracket. Don't forget that my 4B is a Raider so grade 4 is the max it will ever do. The current side steps have saved my sills a couple of times but exhaust pipe is thicker so wanted a little more protection.

BrodieBuilt is making me some 6mm sliders as I just totalled a 3mm one, on my GQ.

Go heavy!

i used 8mm plate to brace it to the chassis, my sliders (off memory) are 3.6mm thick box (100/75) and like mentioned above have bent. on a couple of occassions they have had the weight of the vechicle coming down on them and bar the dents seem to be holding up well.
