Lokka's?

I have been offered a set of Lokka's (diff locks) from a friend of mine. I have heard of the lock Rite and have had a Detroit Locker in a street car (too savage in the engagement/diengagement). According to ther website (4WD Systems) it is smooth. I relly dont want to spend the $ only to find it is similar to the Detroit Locker.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

I had one in the front of a Mav and it made steering in 4wd a pain.

Ones going in the front of my HJ60 on Tuesday.
I was initally going to throw it in the rear, as I have 2 other mates with them in the rear, and another that had his changed to an air locker as his missus missed the turning circle, but enjoyed the chirps as she powered around corners.
Speaking to 4wdsystems they convinced me to throw it in the front.
I hope the performance makes up for the "centering effect" they mention in the Q&A on the 4wdsystems site, otherwise it'll be finding its way to my rear diff pronto.
Will let you know how it goes.

I had a Lokka in my 60. Tried it front and back but found it most effective in the rear. I was also breaking a number of CV's with the Lokka in the front.

i had a lock rite in by 42 swb cruiser
in the rear it was almost hellish on the road not too bad off road put a lot of strain on axle-hub bolts and often broke them
in the front steered not real good and also broke a cv (it was in a nasty recovery job though)
they are cheap and fairly nasty and you will get what you pay for

Had one in the front of my GQ wagon (Lockright brand) for 3 years and moved it into a shorty GQ for another 2 years. i Thought it was very good , yes the steering got a bit firmer but with powersteering i didnt find it a problem, i was runing 34 JT2s and didnt break anything, also no Airlines to break.I now have a Airlocker in my GU, But i thought for the money saving the Lockright was great.

Can we just emphasise that a locka and a Lock Right are NOT the same thing!!!

Hard to tell by the photo, mine came in a whilte box, but look the same.

I run lock-rights f&R and the only problem I have encountered is occasionally having to do a 5 point turn (when in 4wd) where someone with an airlocker could have disengaged their front and done a 3 point turn. However, for the money I think they are great value. Another bonus I have found is that when on road, the rear locker provides for more grip on wet roads. Got mine from Big Balls

i had a lokka on a bundy with a lt1 350. it was the biggest waste of money especially as i only had one car at the time as a poor uni student.
i was taken in by their 1 full price 2nd half price deal. the first one (rear to suit LSD came and it was pathetic.
it had two plates and rubbed on the factory shaft end gears inside the lsd centre. they took like 2 months to send the second one which was in stock when i ordered, i rang them a few times (no call after a month) and they had bad over the phone service. i thought
them and left it at the postoffice (cod). good service is mandatory for growth in this growing market
the part:
agressive torque steer, squealing (as tough as some think chirping sounds it is just a pathetic design flaw). you have put up with some mods with decreased driveability on the road, as there is no alternative (lift tyres etc..). there is an alternative ARB.
save up for an airlocker and have no regrets

so what's the difference between detroit ez-locker, lockright, and lokka? i've heard from a few ppl that the detroit is stronger and smoother, and heard stories of lockrights grenading in sierra diffs.
but then i read stuff from time to time saying detroits are less reliable

Had a Lockright in the rear diff on my FJ40, running a Hot 351c on 35s as a daily driver and never had a problem with it s strengh a reliabilaty.Yes the tyres squawked and it did a few strange things on the blacktop but it was tuff as nails"Like to see a Zook blow one up"

boxes are very similar, I wonder why...
apparently (no proof) the designer of the lock right left that company and now markets a similar product with enough differences to not be a copy...
the search gurus can probably find a heap on this subject already discussed...
I believe the Lokka doesnt have as many choices of vehicle type, and I not know whether side gears are included etc..

The couplers with the female splines in them, actualy replace the side gears from an open diff, the bits you get in a LOKKA box are the same bits you get in a LOCKRIGHT box,.when i had mine fitted in the FJ40 i got the box back with all my side gears in it.

In the past, lock rights had 2 choices, 1 replaced side gears, a cheaper one re-used the original side gears for Sierras anyway (obviously a much rougher engage/disengage.
Lokka made ones I wasn't sure of.
I've been told the material alloy used to make them is different. christover
