good luck with the rear bearings, you will require a spanner around the 55ish mm mark, and the bolts a tourqed up to around to 441-490nm

Yah good luck, I did mine $200 each side, just for a bearing set. I had the axle in a press at a mates shop, we pulled up at 20 tons of pressure with out moving it , thats when the oxy came out. I was able to us the nissan axle tool to retention the nuts. not realy a back yard job. the bearing is a double row uint , not like the single taper roller they first sold me,I thought it was to cheep. anyway it fixed my noise , but it was'nt as bad as I thought it was going to be. so good luck, hope this helps.

Heating just the bearing race while the axle is in the press helps a bit. It is possible to use a needle attachment in a grease gun to grease the bearings, or just remove the inner axle oil seal and allow the diff oil to flow into the bearings. The outer oil seal will prevent it escaping.

An attachment for the grease gun that looks like a syringe but has a grease nipple on the end. Yes it was Pete who was the first to try removing the inner axle oil seal in the rear. As far as i know, he didnt have any dramas..

Oil is a MUCH better bearing lubricant than grease and oil lubed wheel bearings last almost indefinitely.
Landrovers have used the rear axle oil to lubricate the wheel bearings almost since day one. One of the better features of a Landrover. They do end up leaking past the single hub seal and seal replacement can be a regular thing, but a lot cheaper and easier than bearings.
Would be interested to find out more about removing the inner seal on a GQ.

yeah but u still need 2 pull the bearing off 2 change the outer seal anyway so its just as much of a PITA as changin the bearing..

Are you referring to the inner axle oil seal on the rear?
