I am trying to trace a water leak on my tb42. There are big plates bolted to the drivers side of the block just below the head. I am wondering what is behind these. Water galleries, oil channels or inspection areas etc for lifters???
Thanx

hahaaa, i can answer my own question. I found out that these plates are designed to allow an oil cooler to be fitted. Apparently these are fitted in middle east models, etc where temps are high. It is water channels behind these plates and the unit bolts over this area and the existing oil filter fitting, thus allowing water to draw heat from the oil. The oil filter then fits into this new body.

It sounds like the same set-up that the TD42 has as standard. I looked at my shop manual and it looked like the TB42 had it as standard--but it sounds like it dosent.

Yep water galleries, I pulled mine off my spare block a couple of weeks ago.
