Post by big bundy »

hi a teacher at my sckool has a 89 4 runner 2.4 l petrol new shape, with 204,000kms on the clock, it is spotless inside + out, i am really interested in it, he wants $7500 for it, pretty standard apart from arb bullbar, steering wheel, couple of spotties, its had a new altenator and plugs + leads just recently done, what do u guys think i want to lift it a couple of inches and get 33Muddies on it
plz i can i have ur opinions?

with it being ifs you wouldnt get more than 2 inches suspension lift, even with the torsion bars wound out. The 2.4 was pretty underpowered for a 4runner (about 78kw i think) so make sure you can put up with the lack of power. to fit 33's you'd need a couple of inches body lift as well but wouldnt advise it due to the extra stress on your cv's leading to failure. Also with the bigger rubber you'd have a pretty lumpy response out of the vehicle as well.

Hope this helps

I recently had 33's on my IFS 4Runner. From what i can gather it has about 1inch crank up on the torsion bars, and prob another 1 1/2 inches in the back, however they are stiff springs obviously aime load carrying. The only problems i had under compression in the front the tyres would hit the guards, so with a 2" body lift this would be fixed. Beause of the IFS once you wind up the torsion bars you limit your up travel so id go for a 1" lift all round and a 2" body lift. The rear tyres never hit the guards, even when i drove it up onto a ramp prob about 1 1/2 feet off the ground.

Other than that, get a good steering dampner mine almost buggerd after 1 week, there is alot more bump steer, and look at changing your diffs or living with things being a bit slower than they already are.

Its also easy to calculation speed, just knock off 10% and your sweet.
Cheers,
Dan.

Hmm, you should come drive in my 2.4 petrol with 32" rubber. I've never driven a 'stock' one but the engine does respond well to a few simple mods.

my wifes IFS LN61 has a 4" skyjacker lift, the 33"s fit perfect.

the torsions bars are not wound up and no body lift.
