Outer Limits 4x4 Board

my dash had rattled loose after the snow trip and while I was looking for the screw to tighten it I came accross a switch under the steering wheel that turns the engine off if its on and wont let it crank if its off. The ignition still appears to come on as the handbrake, oil light, and 4wd lights etc come on. Is this a factory switch or some kind of aftermarket immobaliser?

Yeah ppl used to do this before imbolisers were cheap. I think it cuts of the low power voltage to the ignition. It the iginition doesn't work niether does the car....kinda.

Some people also use the ciggy lighter to be the switch trip

cheapass immobiliser. mine had one when i got it and it kept fukin up and wouldnt let the starter motor crank over so i had it taken out when the alarm/immobiliser was installed.

Sam you may want to check it out properly because if it is something that has been half assed it could lead to a few problems down the track

I have know idea when it comes to auto elec. However some funny things on my car include the low beams not working one day. (the wires burnt out with standard bulbs) I also have a blue switch which I think used to be for fog light that when switched on blows the fuse for the cd player and clock light?
What problems could it lead to down the track?

If the car still turns over on the starter when it is flicked on then it probably isolates the coil.


As far as the other issues goes i'm a deer whith no eyes.
Maybe try checking all the earths?? just about every electrical issue I have had came down to bad earths

I had the problem with my Zuk that it had two previous owners who weren't auto electricians but liked to play with wiring things up. Over the years I would have completely random problems occur like the time I had to drive from Woods point to jamieson with just my park lights working and then in the morning everything worked.

I bit the bullet and had an auto electrician rewire the car and it solved all those dramas. Sometimes it is worth the security of mind to get things done properly by a professional
