Hi there!!!

I put my 4.2 in just recently.

Need to know the legal part if anyone knows etc etc.about welding on the chassis.

Here is the picture to get everyone on topic.

Image

The above picture is the drives side engine mount.

The passenger engine mount bolted up straight away no problems.

Now the problem....

As you can see the drivers side engine mount is off by a large margin.

Suggested ideas have been...

put a strong steel plate under it.. and bolt it to the current chassis mount and bolt the engine mount on it

cut the chassis and weld in new location (not happy with this option)

Ive heard that you're not allowed to weld chassis's due to regulations regarding warping/twisting/weakening of the chassis.

Im pretty desperate here and would like to know if anyone in the gold coast can pop around and give me a hand to put a plate under it or whatever ideas im 'allowed' to do as this is hindering my forward progress thats if i have to weld it up.

Im just hoping i can put a strong steel plate under the chassis as the engine mount lies halfway of the chassis mount.. so basically 50 percent will be on it and the other 50 percent hanging out.... plate with a support behind it to the chassis?

Just that 'cuttin the mount off and relocating might make it too difficult.

And Im hopin this can be a job for the home mechanic as im not keen on havin my car transported around to various people to have certain things done.

Hope someone can help out !!!!

make a new mount (the one that bolts to the block) with an offset built into it.

Thanks mate.. will do some measurements and see if i can weld the new mount on a plate to screw onto the block to align it properly to the chassis mount.

Excellent..

im dumb sometimes.. looking at the problem where i shoudl be looking around the problem.

My engine mount appears to be a few mm further back (4 bolt type). Moding yours would be a good idea.

Cant weld the chassis?? What do engine mod companies do every day of the week?? Or am I wrong.

IMFUO, i would guess you can, but betting you will have to get it inspected/engineered. Call an engineer and ask.
