Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Whilst I was fitting a new exhaust hanger (ripped off by the deep snow on club trip, probably) I could smell fuel badly.
I found a huge amount of fuel coming out of carb, near the idle up side of the throttle butterfly spindle.
I suspected carb probs, because I hate carbs with a vengeance.
But upon removing the fuel line, fuel poured out under pressure, without motor running.
After a bit of invetigating, discovered the carbon cannister/breather was seized..It was letting air in ok, when using fuel, but was not letting air out, as when fumes build up in tank.
Not sure why, but mud ingress is a possibility.
Now I have a mates old one, with a fuel hose and filter on it this time.
Then I pulled carb off, to see why the fuel came out where it did (even under pressure, it shouldn't come out there).
Nut that held spindle on was very loose, allowing spindle to rock up and down, (could have fixed that with carb still fitted, phooey).
Now it runs and starts much better than it has for a while, must have been a prob that was around for some time.

carby= pain in the ass

carbs = pain in the ass im still having carby probs. still running rich and still getting bad fumes out exhaust

Whilst I'm not a lover of leaking carb's etc, I think at times they get a bad wrap for stuff which they're not to blame......this is one of those examples.
