Clutch, I can't work it out?

I've just put a new clutch in my HJ47, changed the clutch master & slave cylinder while I was at it. Everthing is back together now, but everytime I try to bleed the clutch the slave cylinder piston is driven completely out of the bore.
I just can't figure it out, the master cylinder looks the same as the old one with a three quarter bore & the slave cylinder is identical. All I can think of is that there is some kind of valve in the mastercylinder that is not allowing as much fluid as was originally pumped back into the resevoir. Stuffed if I know, can someone please help

Check the push-rod travel adjustment at the clutch pedal. Wind it back so piston in the master cyl dosent travel as far--but not so far as to prevent the clutch from disengaging properly..

dont know if this is the proper way to do it..
but i put rigged a C clamp up so that the piston is physically restrained in the bore..
then i bled the system of air, undid the clamp and slowly pushed the piston all the way back in. then i connected the push rod to the clutch fork and bore and adjusted the push rod length as per what woop said..

Thanks for the help. It prompted me to have a rethink on where I had the push rod adjusted to on the slave cylinder, don't know what I was thinking but I had it all the way in & that was causing the piston to blow out. There must be some sort of pressure release valve in the master cylinder that allows fluid to flow back when the resistance of the clutch reaches a certain point

Anyway I had the old girl going tonight after about three weeks of the road

How much did it end up costing you? what was the problem with the old clutch in the first place? hope it wasnt too costly cos i am about to do the same job on my hj47.

It cost $250 for the Daikin clutch, $45 for the master cylinder, $24 for the slave cylinder. It would have cost more because the bell housing was stuffed as all the bolt holes were stripped and elongated but I made up plates with high tensile nuts welded to them that fitted inside the bellhousing. I drove the old girl for the first time tonight & I couldn't believe how quite it is now and I paid $59 for a clutch aligning tool cos I always said I'd never try to get another gearbox back in without one & I used a bit of scrap steel I picked up at an old mine site here as a cradle for the trolley jack. The clutch had to come out cos one of the compression springs had ripped out & fell down in the pressure plate preventing the clutch from disengaging.
