Best place to get v8 motors?? Engine gurus

Post by fatassgq »

Hey all was just wondering if anyone knows some good importers or engine selling places in Brisbane preferably. Or even anyone selling a 350/400 etc small block

Still not entirely sure what way to go yet but am leaning towards the chev for torque. Will have either tbi injection or tpi depends on what costs.Tbi is good cause simpler.

Not fussed if only short block as I will build it up in the shed over time. Put heads and manifold etc on and mate knows his stuff with electrics.

Any info on these motors would be good.
I am still not 100 % sure if tbi is alowed in a 92 model and if I care! lol
It is coming time to do this I am sick of fucking around. I want a v8. I have kind of shyed away from vh45. I need bulk torque and simplisity.

Any info appreciated

if your looking for a 350 chev there is a bloke in narre warren called graham webb who imports chev motors from the states.
not sure where he is now because he has moved but i have brought a couple of 350's off him and there good quality and fairley cheap to.

i bought a 350 chev of a shop in narre warren, but they don't do injected stuff. the engine centre i think it was called good runner for $1990 unleaded. i was going to put a 350 crate tbi in mine but got over it when i realised with a manual you need motec (or similar) as the factory set up is for auto. $4500 for motor, $1200 + for comp, + accessories etc. i got a gen 3 from smalls wrecking in redcliff for $5500 complete, 6mth warrenty, 20000 klms ex ss cop car. cats etc inc.

getting it mafless tuned inc theft removal, bcm mod and dynoed later for 1100 and thats it. (+marks kit etc as with any foreign donk)

i feel the 3 is better for the same money as hp is a comp tune away, less fuel, lighter, more water proof etc

cheers

Yeah thanks bru21,
I have seen smalls wrecking on the net and they do seem well priced.

I am never sure though with gen 3 as I have heard so much bad shit about em. Ya never know though cause there is a lot of rubbish talk on the net!

Are you puting it in front of a manual tranny or using the auto?

thanks for the info I am so keen to get a v8 in the bay.

My TBI injected Chev is from a 92/93 model, so you should be right..

I'm not sure of places in Brisbane, but I checked this site a few times as a guide to pricing.. They are down in Sydney I think http://www.suburbanimports.com.au/. I picked up an import motor from the Trading Post for 3.5K.. It came with everything inc. auto, wiring harness, power steering, air con, ecu, etc..

i was talking to my mate in the states last night who just bought a new motor for his dodge (mud runner).

it is a 2004 chev 8.1 Litre 496ci 600hp vortech motor. Alll accessories $2500USD. could be worth looking into getting something like this and importing it yourself.

VPW-383SHB-4 Chev 383, Short Block Kit,383 Stroker, Steel Crank, H-Beam Rods with 4 Bolt, Engine Block, 12.3-1 $3,695.95

think they have either motown or Proline heads @ around $1000.

Would make a nnnnice Gas motor-

VPW offers a wide range of Stroker Engine Packages. The most common stroker kits are listed here and are only some kits offered. VPW carefully piece’s these kits with only brand name product. * KB Hyper Pistons. * Scat or Ace rods, H-Beam or I-Beam. * Scat or Ace steel or nodular crank. * Speed Pro ring set. * Clevite Bearings. * Felpro Gaskets. * Melling oil pump. * Proline engine block (Option).

there are many stories about the gen 3's, but what about the raping they get when they are not even run in yet. i guess 30000klms is about well run in which is 2 years of national average klms. the old iron setups are so tough one fogets what a normal motors like. i had my 350 on my boat sking withought the waterpump working. the fellas driving my boat only noticed when the engine pitch changed considerably and was knocking something fierce. temp was right off the 125 degree scale  . still sweet as after a new impeller

Hey bru21,
Does your gen3 have an electronic throttle control? If so are you going to change over to manual older style one?

Just wondering as there seems to be so many little things that come up and bite ya on the bum even after planning these things for ages.

I imagine an electronic throttle sensor etc could be more headaches.
