hey guys,
my F75 Turbo diesel rocky in is need of a new gearbox. Has any body got a rough idea as to what it is going to cost to get rebuilt. I was thinking about the $1000 mark. Anyone had it done?
Is the any good wreakars in QLD that could get me a 2nd hand box. The transfer is fine so it is just the gearbox itself.
Thanks Dan

Yep, you are looking round the $1000 mark, includes bearings, syncros, and gaskets, not including labour. Get some gasket sheeting, and make your own, as its really surprising how much genuine gaskets are.
As for a second hand complete one, probably about the $1100 mark. This was quoted to me by 4X4 Parts Australia, Strathpine, Brisbane Ph 32054377 a year or so ago. These guys have a pretty comprehensive range of parts for most 4x4s. I have never been able to go there and not pick up off the shelf the part I have wanted, no matter how obscure.
There is also a specialist Daihatsu wrecker over at Rocklea. Someone else, Im sure, will supply the contact details.
See if you can pick up a reconditioned box from somewhere.
The problem with a box from the wrecker is, the history isnt known, and you dont know how long it is going to last. You can get lucky, but then again, you can also miss out too.

hey guys,
i decided to rebuild this one. Going to cost $770 labour plus parts. The gearbox lad said parts might be $300 up to near $2000 depending on how hard they are to get.
I rang Marks Conversions and they dont do a conversion to a Hilux (or something) gearbox and tranny.
Looks like i am just gonna have to pay the big dollars. At least then i get a warranty and know that most of the box is new.

Most of the bearings are fairly common, being available either over the counter, or freighted in overnight, at any fairly decent bearing place. If memory serves, there is only one that is a bit obscure.
