DIESEL CONVERSION

Hi All, I am a new user to this chat and I'm looking for an answer. Witht the rocketing price of petrol and the overwhelming thirst of my TJ, I was
thinking of doing an engine conversion from the straight six to a diesel.
I am thinking along the lines of a 3lt six turbo. If anyone has done this or knows of someone I'm keen to hear.
Thanks

The cost of the conversion would be pretty huge I would think. Could get up toward 5 figures to replace an engine which may be in perfect working order with something slower. The conversion will have other effects like rego, insurance and approval hassles too.
If fuel consumption is your ONLY motovation then consider how much fuel the thousands for the conversion could buy. It will take yeeears to recoup the conversion cost in fuel savings, if you ever do. Also if you try to sell the vehicle you won't recoup really any of the conversion costs.

I would also be concerned about exceeding the maximum permissable front axle weight for the D30 too.
I would have thought that something like a 3.0 Patrol turbodiesel would be the go, or a Prado 1KZ rather than a six as they will get pretty heavy.
I don't think it will be very cost effective on the grounds of economy alone, and you will loose perfomance.
If you want economy, get a Zuk

Go LPG if its a problem. Fit a small ULP tank as a back up.

hello jeeper bob
id eather go dual fuel. like ozjeeper suggested
or sell your jeep n buy a later model jeep with the factory diesel in it.
it would work out around the same price as converting yours
to diesel.

Because TJ's don't have a diesel option at all from factory this is not possible unless an Cherokee was bought. Keep your fingers crossed that TJ's will have a diesel in 2 or 3 years, that's all i can suggest...
