Pics of some bootie mods to a 4b tractor used for railway construction...

I bet they will have problems with the steering links etc. There will be some huge forces being fed back thru the steering with all of that leverage...

Cool it's a chode! But there's not a lot of clearance underneath considering the height of the tyres.

A couple more...

What's a chode???

Considering that Val ( the guy dredssed in black) stands about 6'3", the front tyres would be about 62" (rears about 75"+) . Ground clearance would only be about 22"... Pretty close to what you will be getting with your Portals and 38s :D

And gearing that most of us dream about.

It must be local lingo. When I was in highschool it refered to a penis that is wider than long. Haha

That tractor reminds me of a crab.

Clearance will roughly be half of the tyre height. So 19" with 38" baby yeah! :)

I don't think that they have worked out the ackerman to well, it would be pretty dodgy turning that beast, but I bet it could out-perform just about anything on a side slope :)

It has been widened so that it can straddle a railway track and run with the a tyres on the formation either side of the ballast (rocks under the sleepers). They use it to pull 144m lengths of rail off the end of a works train and out along the track.

its probly not going fast enough or steering enough to make a difference

Yeah, plus running on loose ballast, dirt roads and mud, the tyres can slip around a fair bit.

I still reckon there would be a heap of stress on the steering linkages / ram etc.

BTW, did you get the vids?
