Tire dilema

hey all...
after a bit of a run on the weekend which was unfortunaly cut short by staking a tire i came across a disturbing fact... the tyres that are on my truck are fricking expensive to replace.... around $250 trade ... yokohama superdiggers or something like that. Also after closer inspection of the other tyres i realised that in fact 3 out of 4 need to be replaced, and not wanting to spend close enough to a grand on tyres i have a couple of questions.
what is the largest tyre i could fit on a frontera sport without doing any suspension work....
and what would be a good tyre to purchase considering the price i have already been quoted( i figure if i have to pay this amount there has to be something that would be better off road.)
Also if you up the size of the wheels do you have to do any speedo mods?
If anyone has any avice it would be greatly appreciated
