Duel t/cases

how much work is involved in putting duel t/cases in a suzuki tray back and how do you mount the two cases together????

A search is a good idea ;) There's quite a few threads about duals.

I have a lwb so considered it for a while but decided s3 will be more suitable.

S3 is a proven product, no fab or custom work involved and no ongoing costs ;) Duals might seem cheaper initially but custom bits, shafts etc will equalise costs over time ;)

All said though IF s3 isn't low enough for ya then duals are the way :)

Lots. I am doing this in my LWB, as when I started building it you couldn't even get an S1 let alone an S3. More importantly, there is lots of custom work - mounts, driveshafts, etcetc.

Notmally, this is done with a vitara case into a sierra case, and they are coupled with a shortened jackshaft that has a vitara slip yoke on one end. At their shortest (when trying to get duals into a SWB) this coupling is done with a Range Rover rubber coupling., and a "cradle" to lock the whole lot together.

I started with a stock SWB tailshaft and worked forwards. My Jackshaft will be about 170mm long.

If I was building it now it would just get an S3. I don't think the work is worth the outcome. Quotes from the workshop in Melbourne that carries out the conversion run to at least $2500, which gives you an idea of how much work is involved.

ok so what sort of dollars am i looking at for the s3 rockhoppers mind you its getting a complete custom driveline (holden gemini diesel with a toyota 1GGZE supercharger and gemini g/box, tossing up between auto and manual, wide track diffs, vitara centers, 32" tyres, 2" body lift, 2" suspension lift, 2"longer shackles and its a lwb trayback i have the room in it thats why i was thinking about duel t/cases so the extra mods to fit the duels are not going to be much of an inconveniance i was even thinking of moving the rear diff back a bit but i think ill see what happens first

id say go for the s3 ive got s1 and 5.1 vitara centres with 32s and that is low enough for everything ive had a go at and to low for some sections

i'm getting a sierra transfer tomorrow to begin mocking it up under my vit, but i've heard much about this range rover rubber coupling on the jackshaft, but wtf is it exactly?

Two Zuks cases will kill you final ratio in high, I made it with a Vitara Tranny+Vitara Tcase + Zuk case.

Hey wheeler, welcome to the board. i have read your dual case thread on pirate4x4 about 500 times over the last month or two as i'm looking to do the same thing in my lwb vitara cause the kicker3 from OTT is just too expensive to get delivered here to australia.

your setup turned out awesome :D , how is it performing still? any updates on any issues you've had with it?

i actually started a thread last night in general 4x4 tech about mounting duals, and so far everyone seems to think your solid mounted idea would be the best way to go. heres a link to the thread http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... hp?t=26540

oh yeah, i think i remember reading something about a cad file for some of the parts needed in the pirate thread but the link was dead. did you still have the cad file by any chance?

It is working quite well, not any problem at all.
I Reached a 133:1 cawling ratio, with the option to run a "high Low gear " a low gear an a "Low Low gear", true N and easy to put 2WD Low rear.

I must have the Cad general drawing here, let me serach it. It is not a fully detailed blue print of each part, but show needed dimensions.

I will follow your post.

Hey Antt, are you going to use a Sierra t-case or a coily/Jimny t-case? There should be a few coily/Jimny cases floating around as they need the old style case to fit crawler gears and a 1.3 high would be good unless you're going to run some pretty big rubber and with duals you probably don't really need crawlers. They're also a little shorter in overall length which is nice for driveline angles and I think the front lwb Sierra driveshaft is going to be pretty close to the right length (Steve?)

its all up in the air at this stage cj. was gonna go duals cause of the price of rockhoppers, but with the trailtough deal on atm, i might just throw those in........just waiting to hear a price for the TT gears.

and yes, the case i've got is actually a 1 litre case, but its buggered so would have to source something else once i work out the mounts if i go ahead with it. (using the standard 1L case behind the vitara case, ya need 37 inch tires to bring high-high gearing back to standard :shock: )

Dont want to use 1 litre but surely you can sell it for someone making a rocklobster.

The coily transfer idea has some merit for dualtcase people for vitaras... but sierra ones are far more plentiful and thus probably way cheaper.

If you were gonna rockhopper afterwards you'd wanna rockhopper the vitara one due to the 0 impact on driving on road unless you are on 35" plus rubber.

In which case you're talking trailer queen or axle swaps anyway with a vitara - most likely both :D
