buying tips for a 1990's 80 series landcruiser?

hey up,
i've just signed up on this forum because I'm more than likely going to buy a Toyota 80 series landcruiser (mid 90's) 4.2 tdi soon.
I spent a couple of years driving my old landy round latin america (see www.ihana.com) and now, with the arrival of a baby too, I'm looking for a more civilised 4x4 that still can do everything (maybe) that the landy could.
I fancy a diesel 80 series from the mid 90's as after this time the toyotas become too flashy.
What I'd like to know is
1. are there any web pages or faq's with buying info for this model?
2. are the front and rear diff locks standard on all 80's?
3. are they all permanent 4x4?
4. anything to check especially before buying?
5. likely mechanical probs?
6. service items that should have been done at certain mileages?
7. what level of electronic control to the turbo engines have? not
as much as a landy td5 I hope!

I'm looking to buy a LHD one in either France, Germany or Switzerland.
If you know any sites in these countries or dealers then please let me know.

any help much appreciated, ;)
cheers,
tom

24 valve became available in 1995.
