how much oil goes into Sierra a 1300 gearbox? Its much easier to pour it into the top, than to access the filler hole on the side.
All the tech links I use are down at the moment, due to the picture probs. christover

1.3 litres. I have to do it this way aswell as there is not a chance in hell of getting my filler plug out. Even with a big hammer & chisel.

much thanx, was same on old gbox, new ones got better plugz, but I like the method...funny the one litre was 1 litre of oil, makes sense that the 1300 has 1.3 litres, christover

Have you had a look in the general tech sticky? Pretty sure it's posted in their.

I used 1.2l when I did mine but that was just a guess

edit: just had a look, but the pic's are down and it was on a spread sheet

How often do you guys change your gearbox oil? whats the consequenses of doing it less frequantly?(ie what happens to the oil? obviously the gearbox doesn't last as long)

As I mentioned the plug is seized in, and the plug has stripped out the inside where you insert the ratchet.

Every 20,000k's is a bit overkill. For a gearbox. In my opinion anyway, won't hurt though.

oh perhaps coillys are diferent. I have 2 holes. A filler hole and then immediatly below that is the level hole.

Nulon make a good gearbox additive also, can sometimes quieten down that noisy gearbox. It also reduces that chance of damage if you get a little water in the box. Have been using it for the last 5 or 6 years.

Cheap insurance

Have used the Nulon additive for gearbox and diff before with success, made my old rocky's gearbox quieter and bit easier to shift too.
