booty fab top shift conversion

almost finished fabbing up a from-scratch top shift conversion for hilux reduction box. it won't work with aftermarket reduction gears - there are clearance issues, but with stocker gears it is fine. everything is scratch built except the stick, which is from a Jatco 5 speed - cheap and plentiful.
all that's left to do is weld the stick brackets to the top plate and cross drill the brackets to mount the stick. about 3 - 4 hours in it so far.
cheers
Brian

used for duals in my 4runner. why do you question whether it is for a 4 speed? will it make any difference?

well if its for a reduction box for duals and you got a 4speed you need a top shifter for both front and back cases but if is for a 5 speed you only need the top shifter for the rear case and can use the 5 speed reduction box for the front box

Yeah i agrea. If this is the Top shift case you need for a Dual case conversion on a Gseries 5spd then you are in trouble because you cant shift from 2wd-4wd with this set up.

sorry i'm a little lost. the modified case is to go behind Gseries 5spd, then dual adaptor, then the original tranny case. sorry if i seem vaige but that is what i was think. will that work?

you only need a top shifter for the rear case if using a g series box, for the front case you use the reduction half of your original box and shut the shift keyway for hi/low with a little metal bar and remove/cut off the 2wd/4wd shiftrail. The rear one needs to be top shifting and needs to be hi/low & 2wd/4wd operational, otherwise you will just have a super low geared 2wd mall crawler.
top shifting front case i'd say would work but you would prolly need to mod floorpan and sticks so they dont hit either each other or the vehicle body.
hope that clears it up

yes I thought about this on the weekend. it's all gay unless I twin stick it, which is doable, but harder.
back to the drawing board.

if I needed a forward shift, why would I be trying to make a dodgy home brew top shift?
if I work out a cheap and easy twin stick top shift conversion I'll post it so you can convert one of yours. It might take a while though, I think I cut the 2/4 shift rail in a bad place and now that transfer is just so many spare parts...
