hi all

ive just blown my rear diff in my 79 RR and now im looking at making sure it doesnt happen again by putting in a Maxi drive locker

ive been to Les Ricmond (rangie spares) in thomastown and they have quoted me around $3500 with me doing the basics , ie mounting switch running lines etc..

does anyone have any other places i should try?

did you blow the centre or crown wheel and pinion...

why not buy the locker direct from maxi drive...
get a diff place to set it all up.. ie. backlash
install yourself

alot cheaper than $3500

Give Ritter's a call. Mine was fitted nearly a year ago for under $2000.

$3500 for a rear maxi  Hope it's gold plated for that price!!

Like landy man said, get the maxi from Mal direct and fit it yourself, or have the diff set up by a diff specalist. Mounting the actuator bracket is also tricky as you need to cut a hole in it for the dog clutch to engage.

Not beyond the DIY machanic, but possible. good luck, you won't regret the fitting of one!!

You could also try Fred Smith Automotive in Bayswater.

$3500

Does that include the new diff? Even if it does, thats pretty bloody expensive but not beyond what i'd expect from LRA!!

When I got mine installed a few years back it cost me less than $1800 installed. There are plenty of places to shop around, Ritters, Range Rov, AMV, Deacon etc.

thanks guys ill have to give a few of them a call

ive been told by a few other people that LRA are expensive too, but i didnt know the real costs of fitting a MD

i also got a quote of around $2500 to do a 2" body lift and fit flares and chop the guards out
i went to 1 other place and got a quote of $1200 for the same job.

i dare say i might be giving LRA a miss.

im unsure as to what i have broken because i havent opened the diff up yet , it did send part of the shrapnel out thru the back of the casing when it did the damage

thanks
Kevin

That explains the $3500 price then! You'll probably need a new housing, or the housing welded up. Could have even wrecked the crown wheel and pinion in the process.

Did they look at it when they quoted you or was it just over the phone?

Maxidrive etc.
