Hey guys,

Thought I would just say hi. I've been given my fathers old work ute, and damn is it worse for wear! It's going to be taken off the road for about 6 months (at least) as I get the time to do it up as solely a 4WD vehicle for weekends etc.

Pretty much everything needs replacing, but I've always enjoyed doing up cars, and this is the first 4WD I've even done. I'm pretty much know what I want in regards to tyres, suspension etc, it's just the engine / drivetrain etc that I'm wondering about.

I've read a few posts and noticed that people are pretty much dropping any engine in these things, which is filling me full of confidence... and ideas!

Basically, my original plan was to get a 22RE, rebuild it, lower compression etc and whack on a supercharger. Has anyone else done this? It seems like a pretty easy and simple plan as the R series engines will all bolt up so there isn't much involved there. Plus I've turbo charged some of my other cars so that whole forced induction area I've got covered.

But does anyone else want their 2c worth, as I'm willing to listen to ideas. At the moment I don't want to do anything until I get back from overseas next month so I'm just looking for opinions at the moment.

Finance wise I'm not going to put a limit on it as such... but realistically if I can get the engine in and running for around $4k I'll be happy. (I've got alot of parts sitting around doing nothing as well, like intercoolers, 330cc injectors, etc that can be used)

Thanks.

http://www.toymods.org.au may be a good place to ask about that specific engine...

also a company called LC Engineering in the US is probably the largest supplier of (performance) parts for that engine.

another forum called the old celica owners club is full of people who work on the 22R series of engines, but it's temporarily offline.

People may be interested to know what you plan on doing with your new toy... ie. rock crawler, drag racer....

Wouldn`t worry about spending money on a shit motor better of spending it on something with EFI,Pretty sure a Supra conversion is the thing for you

Ummm, isn't the 22RE EFI? I wouldn't touch a carby motor at all.

Supra?? But how much stuffing around are we talking about getting to fit up to gearbox?? Or is it no longer going to be 4WD?

you would get an adapter to make you able to put a transfer case on it. a couple of people are running rover v8's in there cars, from what i have heard they are pretty cheap, however u may like to pm either RUFF or someone else about this, and how much work is involved mounting in a hilux
