Mile Marker Winch

Post by schmidty »

Hi. Just seen a 9000lb mile marker winch in this months 4x4aus. I have an 88 Xtra cab hilux, which i like to get out in the bush in as often as i can. A winch would be really handy, but as i can only see it getting used a few times a year dont wanna get too carried away on $$$.

Saw these 9000lb mile marker winches advertised for $999. just wanna know if anyone has 1, or has heard anything about them. Really its only going to be doing light work, hilux isn't very heavy and goes some decent places, but usually its somewhere i can be snatched out of. Any thoughts would be great.

The only MM electric I would consider is the 12,000 pound one. It has a series-wound motor (like Warn, and recently Ramsey) use, which is a far better application for winch duty than the cheaper permanent-magnet motors used in the lesser MM (and other cheap) winches. SW motors do draw more current, but (winch use not withstanding) their general properties lend themselves to the sort of stress that a winch would put on them.

In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.

You can get a 9500 warn for $1000 from tradingpost. or 9000 or sometimes a 8000 high mount.

YMMV
