hey all,

i'm thinking of converting my 80 to portal axels, but i'm having trouble finding info specific to 80's on them. Has anyone out there done it to an 80 before ? (i know there was an 80 in the rainforst challange with portals) i know their expensive, but how expensive ?
Can someone point me to a workshop in melbourne that could do it and do a good job.
Plus and ideas/opinions and links to internet info would be great.

Thank you very muchly

I'm sure someone has done it but how much spare $$$ do you have?

I'd be tipping at cheapest with all the work - you'd get no change form $15-20K as a minimum. There's a couple of places that do great work on Yota's but hold onto your wallet.

Ultimately if you have lift now and large tyres - you need to try and drive it no matetr what it is. Somehow the expense wouldn't offset a good winch and Navvy option which would be cheaper and more fun in the long run.

As well as trying to get spares for your diffs!! my $0.02 worth...

Have fun!

there was talk of core engineering in brisbane making a bolt on kit for the 80s similar to that or the rangerover one available.

Portals cost anywhere between 5000-11000 and then some if you custom build them. For 5 grand you would get a pair of volvo's or maybe mogs althought the output is often on the left hand drop. I believe both options would be stronger than the stock 80's
