project - snorkel build - info

looking to put a snorkel on my gq diesel 4.2 non turbo
i've been looking a the bought black plastic ones & it seems to drag the airflow in a longer path
what i wanted to do is make one out of 3 inch exhaust pipe
or stainless steel
don't know where to get the extra bits from & whether or not it's a good project
some advise & sources for parts (rubber fitting, heads of snorkel, normal bullshite) would be great

i will be doing the same snorkle head go to a truck spare parts shop they are alot cheaper and various sizes i think any exhaust shop will bend it upfor you

I made a snorkel to suit my Bronco using 3" stainless steel pipe and rubber bends.
I was going to get a local bullbar shop to bend me one up out of alloy, but then I saw the size of the smallest radius they can bend and it put me off. It was something like a 200mm radius, meaning the hole you need to cut in the panel work is quite large. The local exhaust shop said they could not bend 3" exhaust pipe to 45 or 90 degrees without crushing the pipe (not mandrel bend).
I went to a truck place and ended up buying a 3" 90 degrees rubber elbow to go through the panel (has something like a 20mm radius on the inside bend), and then used the stainless pipe and 45 degrees elbows as it went up the windscreen. Brought a Safari snorkel head from ARB, got some flexible tubing from Pirtek and custom made the airbox to sit on top of the holley carb.

ive got a 100mm stainless one, was easy to fit, rubber bends, cut the holes with the jigsaw in the gq gaurd, theres some pictures of it on my page.
