Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys
I have a warn 9000lb on my defender. it has been swimming occasionally and copped a fair bit of mud. its 8 months old and wanted some info on maintenance/repairs etc.

At the moment the clutch will not engage. really stiff and i can't get it to move much. as such to use winch need to unspool under power.
Anyone know how to fix or who can fix?

Any ARB outlet could help you out.

warn winches are not water resistant, so if it has been under water/mud it will need a full tear down, clean and reassembly. if there are corroded bits they will need replacing too.

The Winch Doctor is the man to take it to but I could not find it in the white pages or yellow pages... hopefully someone will know the number/address.

or if you're keen, tear it down yourself, clean it all up and put it back together.

yeah its been under water a couple of times. the clutch feels like there is grit in the mechanism?

I know. I can't find it. I know I had his card around here somewhere but it's gone and he's not in the phone book...

give Ateco a call, they are the importer. 97018000. they will be able to point you in the right direction.

You can ask to speak with Jason Lock from Ateco in Vic. He has some expertise in rebuilding them.

If you strip it yourself (which isn't that hard) the whole lot will need attention. Warns are notorious for clagged up brakes and water and corrosion in the motors. When you reassemble it whack some o rings on the drum with some water proof grease, silicone up the motor and either seal the drain plug or pipe it to a dry location (just like a diff breather).

Better still, clean it up and sell it. Buy a Brawn brand new...the 9500 is good for 13,000lbs and is guaranteed water, corrosion and rust proof. It will actually work continuously under water.

my 8000lb warn does the same thing,just havent got around to taking it off and pulling it apart.

Had my 9000lb for 6 years, never serviced it, never cleaned it, hell haven`t even opened it, its been buired in mud, under water, done some hard pulls and still works like it did the day i got it.
