I have just had somre sliders fitted By Cheezy Racing to my GU Wagon.
They do weld the mounting plates to the chasiss then the sliders bolt into treaded holes. Cost $600 fitted ( Bargin )

give jeremy (impact offroad - surfection on OL) a call on 0410636579. he custom makes sliders that bolt around ur chassis rails. he does the best job and his sliders are super strong. makes them for any vehical. will be heaps cheeper than other guys too.

My 2003 GU's sidesteps are made out of aluminium cooking foil, and the left side one is almost history due to repeated contact with granite. I would love to fit a set of rock sliders that would double as a storage tank for when I fit an ARB compressor to power my proposed diff lockers.
Trouble is, almost all the hints refer to manufacturers in NSW. Any West Aussies out therfe know where I can get some quotes here in Perth?

I hear what u are sayin! Here's pic of my standard ARB ones after a recent trip. The steps were pushed so high up after rock concert (bash) that it twisted the front mudguard and made a mess of it... worse thing is this is the second time I have had to replace the guard. Last time it took 6 weeks for the new panel to ship from Japan as none were available in Oz

you have just convinced me to incorporate a brush bar and sliders into the tube bar im building !

I have the ARB ones just like yours and there faarken piss weak ! My side steps are bent up so they nearly touch the sills but i never thought that the brush bar may twist and smash the guard !

just finishing off a set of sliders which incoroporate brush bars in them. will post pics wen they are done. hopefully by the end of the weekend.

Yeah that would be sweet !

We are still peicing it together and or contemplating using just the tube from the original ARB welded back on to good strong sliders.

Are you making yours in one peice, or making a bracket to bolt to the front bar ?

i originally had arb side steps and brush bars. factory bolted to the arb bullbar. made my own sliders (and full width skidplate) and used the original brushbars with some modifications and they will bolt to the bullbar and to the sliders. (if skidplate ever needs to be taken off, brushbars need to unbolt from sliders otheriwse ute needs to drive over skidplate (all one piece)

pictures will make more sense.

Here are my Cheezy sliders incorporating side rails ( Very strong )
donot flex into the panels.
i have layed the whole weight of the car in deep off camber ruts and the side rails donot budge!

I had the same problem with the ARB bars.

Although the hit wasn’t a big as that, both side sills are dented because of the rail moving. They would move at the front approx 30mm when a slight amount of weight from a fork lift was applied. Had a long battle with ARB about it and at the end they realised the front chassis mounting point was not rigid enough. They came to my house and added extra bolts to strengthen the mount.

They are still not rigid enough compared to other sliders though.

(yes this is posted in my members thread, but people here were interested too)

Well after much thinking and designing, came up with my own skidplate and slider combo, as well as new subtank guard...with the help of eliteforce fabrications here is the final outcome.

sliders made from 48oD pipe
skidplate frame made from 40x40 SHS
brackets made from 65x10 flatbar
bolted using m10 hi tensile (3 mounts per side, 6 bolts)
skidplate made from 3mm mild steel
mounted using m6x30mm grade 10.9 countersunk bolts (25 total)

the idea is that the skidplate can be removed for easy acces to transfer case bungs (gearbox bung just in front

) for oil changes. the frame can also be removed should it need to.

reused my old brush bars

sits 40mm below chassis, but only about 5mm below crossmember, not much ground clearance lost considering

brushbars are bolted on for easy removal. bottom of sills painted with underbody deadner for protection (and looks

)

non-slip tape

how it looks underneath (nice and shiny...for now)

sliders extend under front guards for full protection. angled front to help "sliding"

sub-tank guard is welded on, no need for removal

U-clamps around the chassis prove very strong.

forgot to get a pic of the frame...best i could do. (dont mind the grease

)

side profile, showing countersunk bolts. plate has been creased for rigidity

will look forward to testing it all out. sliders were tested at easter and proved their worth and other then putting a few dents in the skidplate it should be bullet proof.

total cost of materials was approx $500. labour was at mates rates. cheers simon.

80lsy GQ does a great lookin set of strong sliders at the really good price, from my knowledge (when I had a GU). I havent seen him around for a while though, i think he would still do em though?
