what do you want to use this for?

they are an alright road car, but not the best off road, my old mans mate had one, nicknamed the fire engine, why? the engine bay burst into flames twice, onec after the insurance repair,

ive never driven one, so cant really rate its handling on and off road.

You should be able to get a LWB GQ for that. I got my SWB GQ for something along those lines including mods, but I did all the work myslef and got some help along the way with some cheap bits. When I was at the auctions to buy mine there was a white LWB which was demonstrated (driven) for $4250 with some panel damage on one door.....

If you have to look at ones on the NSW side of the border too... you will get stuff cheaper down there. Seeing a LWB for $4-5k makes it worth looking at the trip.

A pathfinder is ok if you're not serious about your 4bying or just want something for the beach, but the problem is gonna be you never know how serious you're gonna get.

i'd suggest you go out with a club first and see if you like what you do. I wish I'd gone 4bying with a club first before I bought the Vitara - I wouldnt have bought the Vitara that's for sure.

having said that it got me into the sport and that made it a good choice (although getting into the sport has definately been an unsound investment in $$$ terms).

:D

You should also be able to get an early 90's IFS Hilux or 4runner for that price.... despite my personal hatred of them they're a significantly better option for offroad than a Pathfinder. That sort of money should also be able to get you a good Pajero too, or any of half a dozen other mid capability vehicles.

$8000 would also buy you a late model sierra with everything which would kick all of their a$$es...... if you could live with it.

The VG30 used to do that in the 300zx & 300zx turbo, the return line for the EFI used to fail. Great for cooking marshmellows.

Chris,

My old girl has a 90 model V6 VG30 parthfinder and........yeh as said earlier, great for the road or beach but that is as far as it goes really.

You will find GQ's for that sort of coin and they will handle just as good on road (apart from acceleration) and will drive 3-4 times further off road 10 times easier.

Cheers
Linc

You are right Cracka, they are very reliable & not a bad vehicle. The second genreration Pathys are more reliable & better in the bush than the early models.

The early models had a few faults but not many. Nothing like other vehicles like Landrovers & such.
