bent and snapped steering - kinda fixed

hey had a fun little episode on sunday at canungra on sunday, snaped the steering coupling on the colum. thats easy fixed but i think the arm that goes from the steering box to the drag link (all standard steering) is also bent inwards. its got rock rash on it back to shiny metal, guess thats why the coupling snapped, and when the wheels are straight it positions the draglink about in the middle of the spring. is that correct or is it bent???

ok so i scored a steering coupling from the wreckers for 30 bucks :D and put it all back together but it looks like the reason it broke was the numnut that did the body lift ( no it wasnt me ) never let the tension off the splines on the shaft so the rubber thingy has been under stress the whole time. so my question is, i've let the spline slide out and not its only griping on about 10 or 15 mmm of spline from the steering box and the bolt is out of that little grove in the spline. is that safe or should i do somthing else??

steering is the ONE thing you need to be 100% on your rig.
Do a measure up from the spline on the steering box to the top of the spline coming out of the firewall, go down to the wreckers and go thru his hilux, 4runner / surf and prado steering shafts and get one that fits (they're cheap anyway), he may want your old one as an exchange. it's best to have it so the locking bolt goes into the groove, it's there for a reason.

a mechanic mate who's been doing body lifts for years reckons he's always just let the spline slide out a bit on the steering box end, just like i've done. is it safe to drive at all?

snake racing do a steering shaft extenion for about $100 .the engineer didnt like my cut and shut shaft on my lux. so out came the 4inch body lift for rego that is. see how youn go with one of these, i think power steer is shorter than manaul. :) . good luck.

Is this for an 80 series?
I recently did a 2" body lift on a 96 GXL, auto, Aircon etc... I only mention this as I HAD to extened the steering shaft.
If it's an 80 you wont fit the Snake extension, your better off fitting a 15mm Poly urethane disc to the flexi coupling under the dash.

Meh... streering is not such a problem, its the brakes that are the one thing that need to be 100%
