Simple question. Is it legal to fit 265/75/16 tyres (say Goodyear MTR) to a GU with a 265/70/16 tyre placard? Half the tyre dealers i've spoken to say yes the others say no! Who is right? does anyone know of a standard size tyre in a mud terrain pattern and is it possible to get an engineers approval for oversize tyres in Queensland. Thanks in advance. G

you are only allowed an increase of 15mm in diameter .

According to the measurements, it would be an increase in size of 26.5mm, therefore not legal. However, most tyres don't actually measure to the size they say they are, and an increase that small you should have no trouble at all getting away with. A 265/75/16 works out to be 31.65 inches, therefore really not a very big tyre compared to what other people are running.

There might be a precedent set about finding the dimensions of the largest 265/70/16 off a suppliers website and then using that to base your +15mm on. This will probably justify an increase to 265/75/16.

Might take a little research, but should legally get you to where you want to get to in the end.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found this on Explore Oz as well. http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Archive/2 ... n%26PN%3D1.
Looks like it can be done without too much drama as well. Makes a nice change!
