Auto problems

I drove up the coast on the weekend, the GQ was absolutely crap on the freeway, vibrations coming from everywhere. When it's in overdrive and I accelerate I get this really bad shudder, it only does it when accelarting in overdrive. Also it tends to slip in and out of overdrive when I'm doing about 90 - 100 (sort of like it can't decide whether it should be in overdrive or not) any ideas?? :?: :?: :?:

First thing is first. Get it serviced. If your in sth Melb give KB autos a call in Berwick. Great service and prices. if yor in Nth east give Wholesale Autos in bayswater. Rodney the owner used to hang around here.

There is an adjuster on the fuel pump that tells it when to change, its only a screw and a slotted plate, undo the screw and move the plate about 1/2 of a mm to make a noticeable difference. Trial and error on which way to turn it.

What exactly is involved in getting an autobox serviced?

Im aware of the two obvious things:
1. change fluid
2. change filter

what else?

adjusting the shift timing thing... Not sure what else you get, but its also cheap insurance if you havent had it done before, you never know what previous owner has done.

While they have the sump off they can check for metal/rubber from torque converter, which I was told by 3 auto places was shot in mine...
I told KB to go ahead and fix the torque converter, which I was told was GONE.. They checked it out, and serviced it, adjusted that shift timing thing, and charged me under $200 FIXED.

Other quotes were for complete rebuilds or converters, anything from $800-4000 I was quoted.

Be sure you can trust the pricks quoting, and shop around eh!

the guy I bought it off said the torque converter had been rebuilt a few months back. Just to be sure I already changed the fluid and filter and everything seemed OK then?

How do you change the shift pattern because it does change into second a bit too early

The slotted plate with wires coming out of on top of the fuel pump. Thats on the diesel.
