Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi Guys,

one of the front disk brakes on my truck isn't applying as much force as the other resulting in the truck swerving towards oncomming traffic when I hit the brakes.

What is involved in rebuilding your disk brake calipers? Anyone done it? is it like a clutch master cyclinder ie. resleave it and get a new seal kit? Any special tools required? I think the quote I got from the brake shop was $340 a pair.

Caliper kits is what you want, call around and see what you get as prices, they vary, from under $100ea to over $200! for few seals etc.

It isnt hard to do, just lube everything with brake fluid and clean it all really well prior to rebuilding.

If your not too sure, then pay the coin.

Chcek the caliper slides, my brothers & mine had problems with a shitty pedal. Turned out the slides were worn causing the caliper to jam as the brake was applied. Common problem.

We fitted the GQ calipers which take the same pads as the MK & that worked better than standard.

So can the slides be re-sleeved is they turn out to be pitted? is that a common fix?

you replace the slides, the price may scare you, but work it out over 20 yrs the car has been running.

I didnt as our local brake specialist hasnt had any success with sleeving. He suggested second hand GQ as they were cheaper than sleeving and they worked better.
