VG20T is cheap... about $450 at last check.....
You can probably fit the single turbo VG20 or early VG30 single turbo... but no way a later Twin Turbo one

VG 30 .. and compact are not two words I would put togrther in a sentance .. have you seen ome sititng out of a vehicle ??
They are wider than a 350 aand i belive a bit longer as well as taller ..
The vg20 may be an idea if can can find a rear wheel drive box that will bolt onto it ..

I imagine that the Vg20 and 30 are the same overall size, there is just more air inthe 30.
correct, they are bigger overall than a 350 chev, mostly due to the OHC(s), and the turbo placement (even on the single turbo cars.)

the 1 i saw in a datsun ute at work the other day had room to boot and was non turbo, over head cam fuel injected i got the tape out and measured it, was 530mm wide at the front including exhaust about the same in width lenght ways and about 640 from sump to top of throttlebody, plenty of room to go in a zook..

My zed had the VG30DETT in it and your chances are buckleys and none of fitting that sucker in! It was shoehorned into the ZED! And the servicing costs are ridiculous!!! Even the non-turbo variant (VG30DE) found in nissan maxima, is way too big! They are a great motor, but serious overkill for a zook. If you want that sort of power, then get a supercharged commy V6 and fit that with the auto. Prolly cost you the same dollars to setup, but heaps easier to fit, and cost of running will be heaps less.

You want the VG 20T... it's much smaller. And it usually has the variable vane turbo setup too which is great for low end ppower.
Early single cam VG30 and the VG20 are similar in dimensions although the 3 litre is still bigger.
Trying to fit the later 300ZX VG30DE into anything else is gonna be a nightmare and the DETT you've basically got no hope in any other car.
The VG30DETT is an awesome motor, and I love the 300ZX....(as I loved the Zed Series) but I'd NEVER buy one. Too many problems due to heat from the cramped engine bay.... and it's basically a rip engine out job to do almost anything on them, so repair costs are huge.
Go to a car yard and look under the bonnet of one...
