Hey fellows,
I'm just wondering, does anybody know if there are any differences between a 12r boltpattern/belhousing and 18r or 22r bellhousing. looking for some replacement for my ageing 12r.....
Hope someone can help me out...
Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,
All R series engines use the same bellhousing pattern. An 18r or 22r will bolt straight in, same mounts as well.

Thanks mate, that means I don't have to use a bellhouse extention kit or some? just swapping clutches and bolt the stuff right back?

You should be fine. I seem to remember something about late model 22R's having an extra locating dowel that isn't allowed for on early boxes.. Is your box an L40 or something?
I could be wrong though. Just give it a go and see what happens.
I'm in the middle of ditching my 18R for a 22RE so if anything pops up i'll let you know.

been away for a while...
Got the new donk up and running?
Since I own a Daihatsu F20 I'm not sure what kind of gearbox it is. All I know is that it's the original engine/tranny combination. I think it's just A bellhousing thingy. All I need to find is a 22R/18r .....

Have been away a while too.
New donk ain't quite runnin yet, all bolted in but still sorting out the f&^% wiring..
I know a bit more than i did before though. The 22RE I have is from an 85/6 Corona Avante and it has the mounts in the rear set of bolt holes and the 18R's are different again, so i had to get some later model hilux ones.
I had read on another site that R series motors share bellhousing patterns and mount locations but i have no experience with 12R's and from what I've seen I'm unsure if this is true really.
About the extra locating pins, I'm using the original 4 speed for the time being and had to drill an extra few holes in the plate and the bellhousing, but not really any dramas. Mine's an L40 by the way. It will tell you what you have on the plate in your engine bay.
Hope this is of use to you..
there's probably heaps of other stuff i've forgotten, but if you go through with it just post up, someone will be able to help.
