DGA Insurance- definition of mods/ accessories...

Just wondering if anyone has claimed from DGA Insurance and how did they go?

In the policy it states:

*Please note vehicle can have any modification added to vehicle, there are no restrictions. In the case of total loss of theft, modifications will not be included.

*The policy is a market value policy plus market value of all accessories.

Now, I've read through the entire policy booklet and my insurance contract, but nowhere does it state exactly what they define as an "ACCESSORY" and what is a "MODIFICATION". To make it even more confusing both Modifications and Accessories are listed under the same heading on the contract- it doesn't specify what they class each item as??!! :? :?

My concern is that my aftermaket stereo, alloy wheels, dual battery system, alarm etc etc are all classed as MODS and not covered at all....

Out interest RAA insurance define a mod as:

Modification means any alteration or addition to the body, wheels, tyres, rims, engine, exhaust, extraction system, drive train, paintwork, suspension, instruments, sound system, interior, or any other work that changes the performance, security or value of the vehicle.

If that's DGA's interpretation then anyone insure with them is in for a rude shock should the worse happen.

By the way, the DGA policy is also know as "Australian 4WD Insurance"

Accessory = Radio, CBs, Ariels etc.

Modification= suspension lift, 5 link, 350 chev, or laminated parts. They are modified from standard.

Call them, trust me.. you will get nowhere.

I've sent them an Email to see what they have to say.

I'll be looking at changing companies ( again :bad-words: ) if they don't even cover alloy wheels and the stereo if they're stolen...

I am guessing DGA is Australian 4x4 insurance.

I had the same question and called them. Was pretty simple. Snorkle, Bullbar, CB etc are all bolt on accessories. Diff locks, suspension are modifications of the vehicle from stock (not bolt on).

I would have thought a modification would involve replacing a factory installed item with an aftermarket bit. Such as replacing suspension with lifted suspension or replacing a diff centre with an air locker.

However UHF radios would be an accessory.

But a snorkel does not replace anything but you cannot uninstall it without having big holes and screw holes in your body work.

CD players replace factory units. Bullbars replace bumpers? What about them?

I would want EVERYTHING in writing!

Yes, DGA is Aust 4wd Insurance.

It will be interesting to see what they say, another person told me he was told the bullbar wasn't an accesssory!?

From what he said I got the impression that if the vehicle had similar item fitted before then it was classed as a mod eg. bull bar is a modified bumper bar; alloys wheels are another mod - replacing factory wheels; aftermarket Cd player is a mod- replacing factory item; winch is an accessory - because it's not replacing a factory fitted winch; UHF radio is an accessory because it's a new fit not a replacement etc. It sucks if that is how they work...

If you search the 23490823094820348923098409 insurance threads, no 2 people are ever told the same thing by ONE insurance company.. It depends which nuff nuff answers the phone.
What ever they say, get it in WRITING ON THE COMPANY LETTERHEAD BEFORE you sign up for it.

Dan in our club even PAID for his insurance with a major insurance company, had the paper work few mths, then glanced at it, it said

"Your insurance is void without a black wired car alarm fitted"..

He was never told this verbally, and it was never mentioned prior to them taking his money. Call to them said bad luck Mr.

Many, many years ago when I was trying to get finance for a V8 4Runner with a red book market value of aprox $10,000, I had to get it assessed by an accessor so as I could get finance.(It was 4Sale for $17000) This accessors report was also used to cover the vehicles modifications (V8 conv, H/Duty g/box ect..) with, then ARB, DGA insurance. I can only assume that if they were insuring it for the mods to make it worth more that the red book value, that they would have covered it plus accessories if it got "lost".
Prolly doesn't help but worth mentioning. I have insurance thru DGA, and after reading the post, wonder what is covered as an accessory.
