Nissan auto engaging hubs

can soimeone explain this to a toyota boy, my old man tried to explain it to me but i dont think he understood it properly
6 turns of slip and it auto engages?
then 6 turns in reverse and its slips out?

No, it takes less than one rotation of the axle shaft to engage the hubs, and does not require the vehicle to move an inch (common misconception). You could be stuck in 2WD, throw the lever, and engage the hubs as the rear tires spin in place, but in the process you can dig the rear deeper into trouble and/or cause the rear to slide to one side in off-camber situations, and the shock can be hard on the hubs (CVs/axles too) when they catch the spinning shaft.
Unlocking requires reversing (opposite direction from last while in 4WD anyway) for a short distance, typically a meter or two, but the manual says more.
I hear talk of auto hubs unlocking briefly in overrun conditions, but I think it's another myth, or at least an overinflated concern.

Auto hubs unlock themselves reversing down a steep hill.
Thus why i put mine on 'lock'

when you stuck in mud and doing the old "reverse then first" rocking motion they can unlock making things worse.
