start off with a rear..

as the 80s have a shitty lsd system which wears out really quickly..

then get a front.

If finances allow.. get both at same time.

You all mention that the toyotas lsd is sh*t, what about the nissan lsd, should you go front first and tighten the rear lsd up or go rear first :?: :?: :?:

Okay,

Nissans i believe have 2 different types of LSD's.

The extra clutch pack LSD's (2.8 TDs) are extra tighter and require more torque to slip. and the standard LSD's are still awesome. The difference between the toyo and the nissans as nissans are viscious LSD's.

Most people believe that the nissan rear is good enough and just opt for a front locker.

BUT what most people dont realise is that there will be SOME stage where the nissan rear LSD wont move the car forward, (where a rear locker would have) so they engage the front lockers and accidentaly put the car in a position where it may land on a spinning wheel thus breaking a CV.

Sure, its a good idea to get the front done first on a nissan since the LSD is so effective, but at the times when its not effective is perhaps when a CV can get busted as the front has to work harder.

If i had the money, id go dual lockers. full stop.

If you're on a budget and plan to get a rear locker at some stage,, then get the front done :)

putting the locks on the front how will that affect steering, if i use the diff locks (eg no traction) to tow out another car will the added stress cause damage to it

Perhaps you can get your LSD tightened and on some Toyota's swap it to the front and put the ARB in the rear. It is much harder to break the rear end with a locker than the front.

Generally what breaks driveline components is not heavy constant stress but heavy sudden stress.

In other words it's not a problem so much when you've got all four tyres planted firmly on the ground and hit the pedal, but it IS a problem when you've got a couple of tyres in the air, hit the gas, move, and then a tyre that is spinning really fast hits the ground (and the ground ain't moving.) It's that sudden stress that breaks things like CVs.

So towing is probably not really an issue unless you're bouncing around a lot anyway.

Unless you plan to fit them yourself save up a bit and screw the hell out of whoever you get them off. Most places will charge upwards of 600 big ones to fit each end

If i remove the centre off my diff.. take it in to a diff shop..

CAN they drill it for the air fitting, as well as install locker for me and i install it back on the diff myself?

how much will that burn my pocket? just dont want to take my car in.

I have been quoted around $1400 fitted for the locker & another $350 plus fitting for the compressor.
