Hi guys :)
Stumbled across this forum while searching for some info on my "new" Patrol, have just bought a GQ Diesel and want to add a snorkel.

The original setup has what appears to be 2 airfilters, the smaller (precleaner ?) on the inner guard connected to a larger more regular looking filter. Should I be looking at removing the smaller of the two whilst fitting a snorkel or leaving both intact ? And is there a "better" type, style, brand of snorkel to buy or are they much of a muchness ?

Secondly, This thing has a factory diff lock on the rear. When I flick the switch the dash light doesn't come on so I am not sure its working correctly. Is there a technical way of checking rather than chucking a burnout in the dirt? :D

It may be that I am worried over nothing and its simply a blow bulb... if it matters, the unit has a small single vacumn pipe and a pair of wires leading from it.

Regards and thanks
Daniel

Should be 2 vac pipes and a pair of wires, one vac holds on, other vac hold off (out)
Turn it on a 5kph and do a U turn. Tyres will scrub, turn off and turn back other way to dissengage.

With snorkel most seem to remove Pre cleaner, plum snorkel hose to main inlet hose, and leave main unit alone.
I run a safari with that setup

Cheers bazzle,

Will look a little closer at the unit on the rear diff in the daylight. From my ratting around under there tonight it seems theres one pipe and a pair of encased wires. Power to and from the switch is there using my multimeter. Also had the missus flick the switch while I was under there .... no movement / noise etc at all. (Not sure that I should or shouldnt really)

Thanks again
Daniel

Yours has a light on the dash to tell you if the locker is on?

I'll have to check if mine has.

Was trying to use it but couldnt be real sure if it was working on the weekend. The one time I did get stuck both wheels turned with it on or off so that wasnt much good

:(

there is a light on the dash-until the wire connected to the diff gets riped off :D
you will know if its on-they can take a little while to engage and disengage. Don't put it under load if its not compleatly locked in. they work well if they are looked after. dont treat it like an airlocker. leave it in or out. Mine lasted for years but too many base of hill , turn switch and go foocked it.

I thought the manual said can't do over 8kph with it on? Is that a safety guideline or a mechanical limit?

Does the vacuum or solenoid control only limit it to Low range?

Low range .... thats interesting.
Hadnt thought that that may be a restriction :?

My manuals and the haynes manual make no mention of the damn thing

99% sure i used to run it in high range no worries. when i first got it , it wouldn't alway turn off so i would just keep drivin home trying to get it off-swerveing on off the tar speed up, slow down, blip throttle etc. 70odd kay an hour etc i have no idea why it died :D :D :D

I have a cousin who reckons the only way to get it of is to run hard in to a gutter or somethig of that nature and pop.
