was thinkin of diff engines to put in once the 2.8 dies and i want somethin with serious power but dont want to run 350chev etc due to fuel costs. but i saw in 4wd monthly a dude put a lexus v8 into his dual cab lux and thought that would be a good idea. but i would like it to a manual not an auto.. would this be possible? fuel consumption would be bout the same as what im gettin now as we have a soarer v8 and it is only 250 kg's lighter than the lux so would be bugger all difference.. anyone got ideas??

if you care about fuel economy why not get a 1KZ-TE (3.0 turbo diesel) like the current hilux/prado. prob a cheaper conversion than the V8, motor will bolt in, engine mounts, bellhousing etc all line up. get some fat intercooler action going and you'll have buckets of power and zillions of fuel economy.

see 1KZ-TE's in the 'just 4wd's' type mags for around $4 - 5k, and there would be little else to spend.

can you get a gear driven case to bolt behind the auto?
i was thinking if you could do that and put 4.7 gears in it, or 5.1s you could have a light and super strong drivetrain for a buggy?!?!?!?!

The lexus doesn't quite fit in the hilux engine bay, you have to move the oil filter (change to remote mount) and a few other odds & ends... Probably no harder than any other swap, excluding all the electronic bits.

Dellow Automotive in Sydney makes a bellhousing for Lexus V8 to either G52 or R150(V6 4Runner) 5 speeds for about $450/500. If you give the old wiring loom and new loom to an auto sparky they can adapt a new loom to plug straight in.

I looked at this option for my 84 lux but went for 1KZ 3.0 TD instead. Better low down grunt and fuel economy. Bloke in Bris gets 130hp at rear wheels with same fuel economy just by better tuning and fiddling with turbo, costs about $1600 to do. All Jap in Brisbane and Ichiban in Sydney will sell you a 1KZ(import) for just under $3000. I got mine from a Wrecked hilux with only 12000km's on it but paid a bit more. Also got gearbox and transfer etc etc out of wreck. Havent bolted it in yet so cant comment on that.
