I am in the process of putting my long range tank in and I found this little filter looking thing that just goes to the inner gaurd. It has never been replaced so was thinking of doing it know is it just a std fuel filter. Also is it worth extending it up the C pillar (its a SWB) abit.

I think its a breather filter, and if its in the same place as mine was--secured with plastic clips to the chassis rail, you'll need to move it as the LRA tank is a very tight fit in the chassis rails. I mounted mine on a bracket on top of the tank and used the sender bolts to hold it in place. Also, to fit my LRA tank, i used a tube cutter, and shortened the supply and return lines to finish in top of the chassis rails. I then extended them with flexible fuel hose. You MAY also need to shorten your filler hose, as the LRA tanks filler neck does not go in on an angle like the original tank and the filler hose may kink if not shortened.

I think it is a non return and a breather valve which allows air to pass through it in both directions. Makes sense, allows breathing, however won't let your fuel escape on those big inclines.

just remember to make sure that if uel gets into the breather line it can freely run back into the tank otherwise its starts a syohon effect and just keeps on suckin, like mine does and i have to get out and release the filler cap so i don't loose all my fuel out the breather. something must be wrong.
Have you crushed yourself yet turps?

sounds like you have yours around the wrong way. I believe you should have the arrow pointing back towads the fuel tank. This means the fuel can't flow out, however air seems to be able to move in both directions.

I may have this wrong, but it does make sense.

cheers

well tha tanks is in, what a prick of a job that is without a trolley jack (it's still on order from 4weeks ago).
And thanks Andrew for your in couaragement. I didnt crush myself or Dad (come close though - bottle jacs suck for this job).
All hoses are trimmed and fitted (nearly forgot the magnet though) and the sender wire is reconnected. So now just need to pour the 30lts of fuel out of the jerry cans and head down the servo to fill the bugger up.

As for the filter thing, I cant remember which way i put it back now. Will look tommorow, might even buy a new one. At the moment I have just gotton rid of the metel section that is attached to the chassi rail. So that hose now goes from the tank to the filter and then on the little hook thing attached to the body work.
The other hoses I just trimmed up abit, all where easy except the main filler hose which was a very tight fit. Ended up heating it up with a bit of hotwater. Note dont use a coffee cup from the kitchen, it now smells of diesel (it is now a visitors cup).

Do you want to try my visitor beer. I have one left. It's for emergency use only - if I was to drink it, but will be fine for you.
