How are ya, im bru's little brother , im in the market for a 4by but im not sure what to buy, ive got a ford fairmont at the moment worth about 5500 but other than that not much cash. I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what beast is best for my situation, what to look out for, what motor etc and any other tid bits of info.
So far the best one ive found so far is an 86 mq in excelent condition for 5500.
oh btw im not really into hilux surfs or anything like that, just a decent 4x4 wagon for a decent price. Could even be a shorty.

yeah well its a petrol 5 speed,
are they coil all round, or leaf or what.
Did it have a fair bit of grunt, enough to take 5 mates, 10 cartons of beers, a cow up the beach.

MQ-MK are all leaf spring. If its petrol convert it to gas, especially if it is the P40 engine.
If you buy a 720 remember this, they go better up hill backwards than they do forwards.

i put a bid on this puppy
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 2490538648
this is the one i want
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales ... istance=25
this is one im also considering

Even though they are leaf spring, are they still faily capable, with the 720, is that the car im talking about or barnseys ute, and do you mean the reverse gear is lower or something.

The MQ is very capable & took me every where I wanted to go.
The 720 (ute) struggled on seepish hills. If you get stuck going up a hill all you have to do is reverse up the hills all the weight is transferred to the front axle & gives you more grop.
My mate had one & it was stupid where it wouldnt go.
Go the Patrol or the shorty landcruiser.

well send some pics and ill get back to you, because itll take me about 2 weeks max to sell my car, and by then you will probably know whether you want to sell or not, and i can organise something. If you dont want to sell, then ill just get something else, but a gq would be prefered if its in reasonably good nic.

haha yeah i know but every time i look at my bros car i kinda druel, and if i get a gq, every time my bro goes for a bigger and better mod, i can get the lesser ones, but yeah, ill sell my car and get back to you mate, if you could send me some pics to fondle over in the mean time it would be appreciated, i put my email address up before.
Is it a ute or a wagon, does it need a coat of paint or not, what happened to the guard and light, when was the last time you had it regod,
Petrol is an issue for me in a way, but the only driving i do is to school, and to work, and im already using 15L per 100 in my ford. Im not really stuck to the hilt with a want for cash to be honest, so i can afford more fuel, unless it goes to 2 bucks a litre or something, damn george bush.
Otherwise ill probably get that shorty.

Just remember with ebay and any other auction. There is no point in bidding until the last few minutes. All bidding before that just bumps the price up.

Paint is good. It is a wagon 7 seater. I just bought it from ebay so not sure what happened to the guard. Auto was supposed to be stuffed but it ran fine when I took it out for a spin. I will decide in the next couple of weeks whether to sell or not.
I will send some pictures anyway.

hmm dont worry about it, sounds like too much effort, ill probably just get the shorty, im not really after an auto, or a 6cyl for rego and fuel costs.
But yeah i know what your saying about the bidding. Im gonna play it safe cause its a fairly nice one, the fellas got two of them ,both fairly nice, so ill see how i go.
If anyone else has a 4wd that sounds nice dont be afraid to send an email, or if anyone wants a 93 eb2 fairmont with power steering, cruise control, climate control, electric mirrors, windows, lsd rear, a sports exhaust, factory alloys, professionally lowered, for around 5400, oh it also has a kenwood head unit, a 10 inch sub, two 6 inch 3 ways, and two 6x9's, a very clean sound setup thats not over done and looks like it was there from the factory.
