Johny joints?

Does anyone had experience with johny joints on trailing arms for a GU and are they worth getting? Also how much do they improve flex?

i put them in my lower arms on a gq. i put them in cause my factory ones were flogged put so i put them in both ends. they transmit noise from the diff etc but its not too bad. if you only put them in one end they would be quieter
i think it does flex more but its probably limited by the shocks. theretically they will flex more cause theres no resistance.
bung a bit of greese in them when they start to squeek. havn't had to do anything else with them but you can get new bushes for them but you can just tighten them up if they wear. they shouldn't wear if they get a bit of grease now and later.
they sell for $90 a pop i think.

I have it allover the car, minus one poli bush on the front panhard rod. The car is stiffer, transmiting the noise, vibrations, etc. But competing is very diferent then just normal off-road driving, isn't?!
The flex is improved, but if you don't have a 5-link front, the flex will be the same (if you will install new trailing arms in order to acomodate the new johnny joints, of course...)
Put its on one end in the rear and that's it. My opinion.

i agree. put them in one end of top and bottom arms. BUT if you only have them in one end they would give more ,twisting the standard ones more and thus ripping or flogging them out quickly.

Thanks fellas for your opinions they are very helpfull

and with that information i will decide to get them or not. They do sound abit of a nuisance though

had a look the other day at my standard nissan rubber ones in the rear lower arms and it would be impossible for the johnny joints to get anymore flex.
In my case anyway when the truck is fully flexed up the part that the bush is in is only a bees dick away from the mount. Hard to describe but there would be bugger all extra twist available if any. btw mine are only new so not flogged at all.
I understand that the rubber ones would eventually flog out but I don't reckon they (JJ's) would be worth the trouble at all.

Yes but are we talking about twist here or "twist resistance",a different
item altogether.

I would prolly rather a bit of resistance than none.
End of the day the resistance is not an issue in my case as it flexes as much as possible anyway. therefore any 'resistance' is not holding up flex.
This was only on a ramp too.

I was just reading a message from big red that he had lots of trouble with his and he said they actually didn't increase flex at all he had to try all sorts of things to get themto work so i think i will give them a miss for a while

have a look. Glenn makes trailing arms for every situation.
and they do free up your travel and these dont transfer noise as they have still got a rubber bush as sorts ( still legal) give him a call
