Gee, how many K's, what sort of nick (dents, scratches etc), service records ?? All this has a bearing.
I wouldn't think anything over $20K is realistic.
SWB hold their value though but I don't know how a seriously modified one would go on the market.

It depends on who wants to buy it. What someone who wants to go rockclimbing or serious offroading considers an improvement, a person who wants to drive along a beach, tow a horse float or just drive around the city may see as a drawback and consequently they won't want to pay as much. Value, like beauty, is very much in the eye of the beholder or in your case the cheque book holder.
I know used car lots up here are very wary of anything that has obvious major modifications as they are really only going to be targetted to specific sections of the community and may be hard to move. They don't like vehicles sitting in the yard for too long. It's the same with private sales, the same modified vehicles are in the paper week after week because Joe Average Public wants something he can take to the garage to get worked on and will be standard so parts are easy to get.
That said I generally go by
www.redbook.com.au this has proved pretty accurate for the last few vehicles myself and my brother have bought and sold.

It's unfortunate that no matter how much money ya throw into your car, the value only goes one way, down! :(
The other thing is, most people buying a 4WD second hand, look for a Toorak Tractor ("Never been offroad", as the used car salesmen say).
Something they know hasn't been bent, drowned and dragged scream'in up hills.
It may be worthwhile seeing what it's worth as a trade in, (on a 98/99 model) at a few different dealers, to give you a realistic value. Then add a couple off grand.
