100 Series Tyre/Speedo Question

Hey all....

I have just purchased a new Landcruiser 100 Series GXL V8 (Don't actually get it till Wednesday).

It comes with 275/70 R16 Tyres (Dunlop I think).

I would like to trade the tyres for something a bit more intermediate than the "Road" tyres it comes with (Maybe BFG All-Terrains.... I love them on the Bundera).

I would like to go up to a 295/75 R16.

Going off a tyre calculator on the net this will put my speedo out by 7.3% (100kph actual will read as 93.2kph on the speedo).

A few questions....

Does anyone know if the 100 Series Speedo's are cable or electronic (I assume electronic)?

If they are electronic, is there an aftermarket converter available to re-calibrate the speedo?

How much will changing the tyres in this way change the characteristics of the vehicle?

Your assistance would be appreciated.

speedo is electronic but if it's anything like the 80 series electronic then it is still possible to change the speedo drive gear which is about $30 from a toyota dealer. my advice is to change your tyres then get out on the highway with your GPS and check your speed accurately, it might be out by more, or less than your calculations say it should be.

there was someone advertising electronic speedo correction units in the for-sale forum and lots of us were interested but it seems they have given up on the project. Marks Adaptors also sells electronic correction units.

as for handling etc, suck it and see. I doubt the changes will be dramatic.
